Community Arts North West (CAN) is the lead partner within the Greater Manchester Refugee Arts Partnership.

The Partnership has been formed to secure funding for and deliver an expanded major 3-year programme of arts development work with refugees and asylum-seekers in Greater Manchester.

The programme will support the development of art-work that will be showcased at events throughout Greater Manchester, including the National Refugee Week celebrations in June of each year. The project will aim to celebrate Refugee Week in as diverse and flexible a way as possible in response to the arts needs of refugee communities in Greater Manchester.

The Greater Manchester Refugee Arts Partnership includes: Manchester Refugee Support Network (MRSN), Refugee Action, The Centre for Applied Theatre Research (CATR), World Theatre Company and Multi-Agency for Refugee Integration in Manchester (MARIM).

So far, the Partnership has successfully secured a large-scale 3-year grant from the Arts Council of England North West, as well as support from Youth Music, the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales, the Baring Foundation and Manchester City Council Events Department.

Ruth Daniel, the Refugee Arts Coordinator is based at CAN and is currently managing this project.
