EXODUS SHORTS FILM FESTIVAL
16-22 June 2008
What?
Exodus Shorts is a unique film festival that showcases the talents
of refugee filmmakers as well as short films that give a fresh
and diverse perspective on the lives of migrant communities.
This year Community Arts North West is excited to present a diverse
programme taking place across Manchester and Liverpool in collaboration
with Contact Cornerhouse, Imperial
War Museum North, Urbis, and
Picturehouse at FACT. Events will include screenings, workshops
and talks with invited guests!
When?
Screenings will take place across Manchester during Refugee Week
16-22 June 2008.
Venues will include Contact, Cornerhouse, Picturehouse at FACT, Imperial
War Museum North and Urbis.
How to book?
Whilst some Exodus Shorts screenings and events are free, booking
in advance for all events is essential to avoid disappointment.

Exodus Shorts Film Screening: FILM Tickets £3 / £2 concessions
Exodus Shorts is delighted to present films from the Triumphant Refugees'
Short Film Festival based in Canberra, Australia. Films include Eviction about
Bhutan's ethnic Nepali minority, It's Like That, an animation
based on the voices of three children in one of Australia's detention
centres, and other thought provoking shorts. |

Stop-motion animation: WORKSHOP, FREE

Are you interested in animation? Do you prefer Wallace and Gromit to Chicken
Little? Come and join CAN and LiveWire as we introduce basic
stop-motion animation techniques as a unique way to tell your story.

60 Second Film Challenge: WORKSHOP, FREE 14-18
years old
Do you think you can make a 60 second film in 4 hours? For a challenge
come and join CAN and LiveWire as we show you techniques on how to
make a film quickly.

Meet the Filmmakers: TALK FREE, but please book
at box office
Join Exodus Shorts as we host a panel discussion introducing some
of the filmmakers whose films have been screened as part of the film
festival. This will be followed by a screening which will include
some of the films discussed.

Showcase of thought provoking films including Still Human Still
Here: The Destitution of Refused Asylum Seekers a provocative
short film produced by Nick Broomfield in collaboration with
Amnesty International, Survivor which explores the tale
of a young man from Darfur and the friendship he develops in
the world of London's night cleaners, amongst other powerful
shorts.

Sun 22 June, 2-6pm, Education Space
Scriptwriting master class: WORKSHOP 18 years and
older, FREE
Are you a budding script writer? Do you have ideas that you want
to translate into a film? This master class will be ideal both for
writers who have ideas they wish to develop into a script or for beginners. |

Exodus Shorts is delighted to expand into Liverpool and will showcase
highlights from this year's programme. Films screened will include How
Life Happens, about a young boy whose father was taken away
from him, Mimoune, a touching film that unites a family
through the medium of video, and other great shorts.

A further selection of Exodus Shorts films screened which will include Ian
Skiller, a Triumphant Refugees' film that explores the positive
impact refugees can make on our declining rural communities, Sza (Pain)
a film that explores the secret relationship between a Kurdish
teenager and a young English man, and other engaging shorts. |
