Condolences
- Helen Caplan
The trustees and staff of Community Arts North West were saddened to hear of the death of Helen Caplan, who had been a valued member
of the Board of Trustees since April 1st 1997.
Helen had been a highly pro-active member of the board and her advice on a range of issues was a very welcome contribution. Her
work in championing the rights and conditions of people with disabilities is remembered with great affection and she will be sadly missed.
The trustees, staff and freelance artistic team would like to take this opportunity to pass their sincere condolences to Helen's husband Robert.

News
- Donation to CAN
Community Arts North West would like to thank the friends and
colleagues of Kyle 'Ryback' Ramsey who have made a generous donation to
CAN to support the Urban Music Theatre Project 2008.
Kyle was an up and coming DJ/producer with a massive appreciation and
love for music who sadly died earlier this year. His friends have raised
money in his memory to support work that they feel Kyle would have appreciated.
Urban Music Theatre is CAN's programme working with 13-20 year
olds from local host communities and young refugees and asylum
seekers, who are
currently working together to devise and produce an original performance
at the Zion Arts Centre between 4 & 6 Dec 2008.

Exodus Festival is over for another year!
Taking place for the first time at Urbis & Cathedral Gardens, this year's Exodus Festival was a resounding success!
Despite the poor weather, crowds of people turned up. They enjoyed quality live music, dance & drama on two stages, stalls offering international food, crafts, community & charity organisation information, workshops and activities for the children.
Photos of the day are available to view on CAN's Flickr pages |

CPAL was established in 2005. It's a group of senior managers representing participatory arts organisations across the North West of England. CPAL's main remit is skills development for people who are currently working in or want to work in the participatory arts sector. It's also a network to share learning, unearth key issues and explore the development of the sector. |

CAN Director, Cilla Baynes MBE |
News: CAN's
Director made an MBE
Cilla Baynes, Director of CAN, has been made an MBE.
For the creative director, the official recognition for services to the arts comes as
her second this year.
In May 2007, Cilla was declared the winner of the Arts Award category at the Inspiring Women Awards, sponsored for the first time by Arts Council England.
Cilla has worked for over 30 years in the arts, mainly in the community/participatory
arts sector and her work has reached communities in the North West, London and other parts of the UK.
Cilla is now back at CAN after her 12 month sabbatical made possible through an ACE, NW 'Artists Insights' award. She spent the time developing her artistic practice as a theatre maker and, amongst other things, exploring her Burmese heritage to develop a new live performance project. |
